a In 1937, the
Jewish population of Austria was approximately 192,000. By
the outbreak of the war, the emigration of over 100,000,
together with persecution and deportations had reduced the
number to some 60,000.

refers to the Jewish population within pre-Munich
boundaries, when the Jews of Czechoslovakia numbered about
360,000. By September 1939, due mainly to emigration, the
number had fallen to approximately 315,000.
